A Thousand Deaths

A poem.

I have died a thousand deaths and I have screamed a thousand cries.
I have carried a thousand weighs and I have heard a thousand lies.
I have crushed a thousand dreams; I have tempted a thousand men.
I have cursed a thousand lovers. Watch me do it all again.

I have born a thousand bairns and I have lost a thousand friends.
I have studied a thousand books; I have a thousand words to lend.
I have opened a thousand scars and I have bled a thousand wounds.
I have fallen a thousand times. You will see me again soon.

I have held a thousand women and I have torn a thousand threads.
I have lost a thousand hopes and I have stained a thousand beds.
I have shed a thousand tears and I have nursed a thousand joys.
I have fought a thousand fights. I am lost amongst the noise.

I have lived a thousand lives, but I am living a thousand deaths.
I have loved a thousand loves, but I am alone once again.
I have laughed a thousand laughs, but nothing’s funny in the end.
I have lived a thousand lives. To this one I am condemned.
